Away with presets!
In this masterclass, you will learn to create all sounds for your new track from scratch using various synthesis and sampling methods. At the end of this 4-day masterclass, you are able to design your own beats, basslines and other electronic sounds.
The masterclass consists of 4 classes, every class takes 2,5 hours. In the first part of every class, we will take a look at the theory behind synthesis and sampling, the second part is about applying the theory to building your own sounds with help from the instructor.
You don’t need previous experience with synthesizing your sounds, but you will need to have basic experience with a daw such as Ableton Live, Cubase or Logic Pro. Due to the practical part of this masterclass, you will need to bring your own laptop and headphones to class. In the course, we will use Ableton Live 10 Suite. If you are not currently using Ableton Live, please download and install the free 30-day trial of Live 10 Suite. The course will be held in English, but your instructor speaks German as well.

The easiest way to get into synthesis. In this class, you will learn
about the basics of synthesis: oscillators, filters, envelopes, lf’s. You will make your first sounds and learn about dynamic synthesis programming.
2. Tuesday 15th January, 18:00 – 21:00 – Drum Synthesis
It’s time to get to the rhythmic part of synthesis. In this class, we focus on getting drum sounds right. How to make a specific snare, what is important for a good kick drum and how can we add effects and more modulation to create interesting drum sounds.
3. Wednesday 16th January, 18:00 – 21:00 – Sampling

4. Thursday 17th January, 18:00 – 21:00 – Going Modular
In the final class, we are taking a sneak peek at modular synthesis. The sky is your limit when you can design a setup that exactly suits your needs. All elements of the previous three classes will be combined and at the end of the masterclass, you will be able to make a complete song without using any presets.
